On 30.08.2024, the competent local court in Gera opened insolvency proceedings for the assets of Sternbach-Klinik Schleiz GmbH and appointed DiLigens partner Marcello Di Stefano as insolvency administrator.
The court had previously ordered provisional self-administration for the clinic with almost 200 employees in June 2024 and appointed Di Stefano as provisional administrator. The well-known Dresden lawyer Thomas Mulansky and his team acted as the clinic's restructuring consultant.
The operator had taken over Schleiz Hospital from municipal ownership in 2021. The step into self-administration had become necessary because the 104-bed hospital was not yet able to cover its costs despite positive developments, according to a statement from the hospital. Employees' wages and salaries were covered by insolvency benefits until the end of August 2024.
However, the financial planning, which was updated and validated at the instigation of the provisional administrator and the restructuring consultants, has shown that it is not possible to continue hospital operations at full cost without an investor or external financing. The previously initiated investor process was unsuccessful due to a lack of interested parties. Against this backdrop, the clinic management has announced and initiated the closure of the clinic by the end of August 2024. The loss of the Sternbach Clinic is a heavy blow not only for the employees but for the entire region, but is unavoidable in view of the dramatic economic situation.
The insolvency administrator has already initiated all measures necessary for the orderly liquidation of the clinic and the realization of the assets.
